Purpose
Florida Campus Compact STEM Initiative responds to the call for more and better prepared engaged citizens and
professionals in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) by providing professional development for faculty and staff to engage STEM
students in service-learning. Through a series of STEM Institutes and the STEM Fellows Program, faculty members are provided with resources and
training to re-energize their courses and address real community needs by integrating service-learning in the STEM disciplines.
Goals
Contribute to the development of a knowledge economy in Florida that is comprised of active, knowledgeable and engaged citizens/STEM
professionals.
Encourage changes in behavior that will create a more sustainable future in terms of environmental integrity, economic viability, healthy
communities, and a just society for present and future generations. (UNESCO Decade of Education for Sustainable Development)
Institutionalize service-learning into the STEM disciplines.
