Dr. Peter Levine

Dr. Peter Levine is Director of CIRCLE, The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement. CIRCLE conducts and funds research on young people's civic education and participation. Levine is also a Research Scholar at the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy in the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy. He is chair of the executive committee of the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools and a member of the steering committee of the Deliberative Democracy Consortium.

Dr. Levine graduated from Yale in 1989 with a degree in philosophy. He studied philosophy at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, receiving his doctorate in 1992. Levine has had a varied and distinguished career as a highly regarded scholar, author of many publications, and a passionate advocate of a fair and deliberative democracy. His vast experience in the realm of engaged scholarship, service-learning and community engagement---combined with his most recent work in K-12 education, will set the stage for our conference on "Sustainability and Scholarship: Research and the K-20 Continuum."

Dr. Mark Miliron

Dr. Mark David Milliron is an award-winning education leader, author, speaker, and consultant known for exploring leadership development, future trends, learning strategies, and the human side of technology change. Mark works with universities, community colleges, K-12 schools, corporations, associations, community groups, and government agencies across the country and around the world. He serves as President and CEO of the private consulting and service group, Catalyze Learning International (CLI). He also sits on numerous education, nonprofit, and corporate boards, including serving as Chair of the Board for the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education and as a Trustee for Western Governors University.

Mark brings to this work broad experience, having previously served as an Endowed Fellow, Senior Lecturer, and Director of the National Institute of Staff and Organizational Development in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin; Vice President for Education and Medical Practice with SAS, the world's largest private software company; President and CEO of the League for Innovation, an international association of more than 850 education institutions and 160 corporate partners; and as Vice President for Academic and Student Services at Mayland Community College (NC). Dr. Milliron received his B.S., summa cum laude, from Arizona State University, where he also received his M.A. as a Graduate Regents Scholar. His Ph.D. is in educational leadership from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a Kellogg Senior Research Fellow.
