Position Summary:

The Assistant Director for Civic Engagement & Service will provide leadership to all facets of the Weppner Center for Service-Learning & Civic Responsibility (WCSLCR) and Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement (SAVI). This includes building on the University’s sense of place for deep engagement with the South Florida community through coordinating the implementation of office programs and special events such as volunteer workshops, volunteer fairs, University wide Days of Service, New Student Day of Service, Summer Reading Program, Blood Drives and other co-curricular service-learning related programs and events that empower FAU students to be active citizens. Serve as the advisor to the student government program SAVI which includes a Student Director and Student Associate Director and provides guidance to related programs sponsored by this organization. Advise other related student service organizations, including but not limited to Alpha Phi Omega.

Responsible for development, implementation and interpretation related to successful management of programs and services. Work closely with the WCSLCR Advisory Board to review and update policies as needed. Manage student staff, including scheduling, timekeeping approval and entry, and assignment of tasks.

Assess all volunteer-based programs and events as they relate to learning outcomes and Divisional standards through CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education). Responsible for development and implementation of semester social issue awareness topics to increase awareness on community issues.

Manage the Volunteer Service Cord Program including application dissemination and application approvals for awarding graduating students with service cords. Develop programs and procedures to enable the WCSLCR to function in an efficient manner. Provide leadership and direction in strategic planning and policy development.

Minimum Qualification:

A Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two (2) years of event planning experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four (4) years of event planning experience required. Strong Microsoft Office skills are required. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, leadership skills and organizational skills. Superior attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task is required.
